What this layer shows

Flood plains formally designated by ordinance under § 76 WHG, usually for the 1-in-100-year flood. Within them, allocating new development land in the undeveloped outer area is in principle prohibited (§ 78(1) WHG), as is erecting structures; exceptions need consent (§ 78(4) and (5) WHG). It is one of the strongest water-law restrictions a scheme can meet.

The water-law side of a site: drinking-water and medicinal-spring protection areas with their zones, designated flood plains and flood hazard maps, Saxony’s flood-generation areas, and bathing waters. Flood plains designated under § 76 WHG are subject to the construction safeguards in § 78 WHG, including statutory exceptions and possible approvals by the competent authority. The map does not replace the authority’s assessment of a specific proposal.
