What this layer shows
The 26 critical zones of the Autonomous Region of Madeira identified in the preliminary flood risk assessment (Directive 2007/60/EC, Article 4), all on the island of Madeira: each follows a ribeira, or a group of ribeiras, where the flood risk, flash floods (aluviões) included, was judged potentially significant on the strength of historical records of floods. They are areas to watch, not a flood extent for a given return period and not a legal restriction in themselves. The flood maps of Madeira's Flood Risk Management Plan are not in the app yet.

Madeira and the Azores
The set for working on the islands. ICNF's and APA's national layers cover the mainland only: these are the ones that answer on the islands: Natura 2000 and the national inventory of classified areas, on Madeira, Porto Santo, the Selvagens and the nine islands of the Azores. On Madeira come the regional layers: areas of potentially significant flood risk, sea cliffs, the land cadastre (still partial), the geological map, PDM zoning, landslide and fire susceptibility, coastal risks and the Santana and Porto Santo biosphere reserves. On the Azores, the Regional Government's layers: Ramsar sites, biosphere reserves, flood-risk zones, water-abstraction protection and vulnerable zones.
