What this layer shows

Where farmland is most likely to lose nitrate to water: the EPA's modelled critical source areas, showing the high band (ranks 1 to 3 of 7) that the EPA's own guidance targets, typically freely draining soils with moderate or high livestock intensity. A susceptibility model built from soils and land use, not a measurement and not a designation; nobody is in breach for farming inside one. Ranks 4 to 7 are not shown.
