Arribas Alcantiladas (Madeira)
What this layer shows
The sheer sea cliffs (arribas alcantiladas) on the coast of the island of Madeira, mapped to the technical criteria approved by Portaria 339/2019 of 31 May under Regional Legislative Decree 25/2017/M. They matter for the maritime public domain: where the limit of the sea bed reaches a sheer cliff, the 50 m margin is measured from the cliff crest rather than from the waterline (Lei 54/2005, Article 11). The crest is in the Crista da Arriba Alcantilada (Madeira) layer. No cliffs are mapped on Porto Santo. The layer is not the official delimitation of the maritime public domain for any plot.

Madeira and the Azores
The set for working on the islands. ICNF's and APA's national layers cover the mainland only: these are the ones that answer on the islands: Natura 2000 and the national inventory of classified areas, on Madeira, Porto Santo, the Selvagens and the nine islands of the Azores. On Madeira come the regional layers: areas of potentially significant flood risk, sea cliffs, the land cadastre (still partial), the geological map, PDM zoning, landslide and fire susceptibility, coastal risks and the Santana and Porto Santo biosphere reserves. On the Azores, the Regional Government's layers: Ramsar sites, biosphere reserves, flood-risk zones, water-abstraction protection and vulnerable zones.
