What this layer shows
Areas of 50 km² and more that are not cut through by busy roads, railways or ribbons of development. They are not a designation but a state indicator: in a country as densely settled as North Rhine-Westphalia, being unfragmented is the scarcest landscape quality there is, and a scheme that divides such an area will be judged on it in environmental assessment.
