What this layer shows

Wetlands of international importance under the 1971 Ramsar Convention. The convention obliges Switzerland to maintain their ecological character but has no permitting procedure of its own: the sites are protected through national instruments, above all the waterbird and migratory bird reserves and the biotope inventories, whose boundaries do not match.

Schutzgebiete

The protected areas the map opens with, free, across Switzerland: Emerald and Ramsar sites, the BLN, the Swiss National Park and the parks of national importance, biosphere reserves and UNESCO natural sites, the waterbird and migratory bird reserves, bathing waters and SwitzerlandMobility's hiking routes.

Federal inventories

The inventories of national importance a project is measured against: BLN, floodplains, raised bogs and fens, mire landscapes, dry grasslands and amphibian breeding sites, with the hunting-ban areas, bird reserves, forest reserves, wildlife rest zones, Emerald and Ramsar sites and Pro Natura's reserves. The basis of every environmental assessment under the NHG.
