Germany's sixteen national parks under § 24 BNatSchG: large, largely undivided areas, most of whose surface is intended to develop as undisturbed as possible. They are protected in the same way as nature reserves, so far as the purpose of protection allows. The underlying data is what Germany last reported to the European Environment Agency; the legally binding boundary is the ordinance held by the competent nature conservation authority.

Nationwide, the nature parks excepted.

The small designations and biotopes are available where that state publishes them openly.
