Legally designated areas under § 23 BNatSchG, the strictest area-based protection in German nature conservation law. § 23(2) prohibits every act capable of destroying, damaging or altering the site or its constituents, or of causing lasting disturbance: but what that means in practice is set out in the site's own ordinance, not on this map. The underlying data is what Germany last reported to the European Environment Agency; the legally binding boundary is the ordinance held by the competent nature conservation authority.

Nationwide, the nature parks excepted.
