Overstromingsgebieden and oeverzones formally delimited in implementation of the decreet Integraal Waterbeleid. The delimitation brings with it a right of pre-emption, a duty to purchase and a duty to compensate. Fixed rules apply in the oeverzone: no fertiliser within five metres of the top edge of the bank slope, no pesticides or soil working within one metre and no new above-ground structures within five metres. In the overstromingsgebied itself, building is assessed through the watertoets. Unlike the model maps, this is a legal delimitation with a decision of its own.
