A rijksbeschermd stads- of dorpsgezicht is an area designated by central government whose historic character is protected. The protection works through into the municipality's omgevingsplan and sets requirements for demolition, new building and alteration of the built fabric, so always consult the omgevingsplan and the aanwijzingsbesluit. The RCE indicates that the position of the boundaries should be treated with caution, because their quality varies.

What a consultant checks first: Natura 2000, National Parks and Ramsar wetlands, the public-law restrictions from the Wkpb register, rijksmonumenten, beschermde stads- en dorpsgezichten and World Heritage, the flood defences with their protection zone from the legger, and the province's water abstraction areas, groundwater protection areas and boringsvrije zones. The omgevingsplan and the bestemmingsplan themselves are not available as a map layer; you read the rules in the Omgevingsloket.

For the heritage and archaeology desk study: rijksmonumenten with the link to the register, gemeentelijke monumenten from the Wkpb register, rijksbeschermde stads- en dorpsgezichten, world heritage with buffer zones, rijksbeschermde groenaanleggen, the Archeologische Monumentenkaart and the cultuurhistorische aandachtsgebieden from CultGIS. The gemeentelijke archeologische verwachtingskaart and the municipal heritage register remain authoritative and are not included here.
