Areal natural monuments under § 28 BNatSchG: legally designated individual features of nature up to five hectares, whose special protection is required on scientific, natural-historical or regional grounds. Removal and any alteration are prohibited. Natural monuments are missing from the European return, which is why they appear state by state.

The small designations and biotopes are available where that state publishes them openly.
